Shaping Identities Through Design
Founded in Costa Rica in 2010, over its not-so-short existence the studio has carried out branding, packaging and editorial projects for clients in over 24 countries.
Although they enjoy developing design solutions for their clientele, it’s the independently generated projects that fill the team’s soul, from assembling the largest multidisciplinary creative festival in America (the continent), to founding and scaling a specialty coffee brand with unique flavors and packaging; or from making globally renowned creatives play football or sing karaoke, to researching and showcasing Latin America’s emerging design talent made by women. PUPILA is capable of solving problems of many kinds, except those of love.

Alfredo Enciso
Founding Partner
Business Development
The one with an inexplicable love for Excel and a unique eye for art direction.
Born in Peru, Alfredo came to Costa Rica in 2002 searching for education and found love. Over the past 16 years, he’s done advertising, worked in education, organized a huge international creative festival (FID), designed and art-directed for several branding and packaging projects, created hundreds of unmemorable jokes, and took a handful of terrible photos of himself, which he happily shares with the world on his instagram

Bruno Campos
Partner
Creative Copywriting
The oldest, wisest, hottest, and the one to blame for our caffeine addiction.
As a child, he got rescued by a stranger after being locked in an elevator for several minutes, since that day his relationship with elevators changed completely. Lover of books and podcasts, with a keen eye for creative writing, Bruno will always have a good quote at hand and will be happy to share some of his wisdom to the youngsters around him. Good relationships between images and texts are to be found right here.

Marcelo Jiménez
Partner
Art Director
The one who loves dinosaurs, and insects, but as tattoos.
Professionally, he’s a well-rounded designer, great illustrator, and matches and picks colors like no one else. Marcelo also does some 3D work and his branding is pretty solid. If not uploading photos of his dog(s), wife(s) or trip(s), you may find some kick-ass illustrations on this social media, or the one of his personal apparel project, Pampa.

Cynthia Bonila
Partner
The Boss Lady
The one who knows how to add, substract, multiply, and divide.
After being in charge of several regional clients at an ad agency, then successfully fundraising for a non-profit, and finally leading the communication and financial areas the Costa Rica’s International Design Festival (the one we organized), she joined Pupila to make sure we always get paid by our clients on time. Naturally friendly and talkative, if given the chance she will talk to you for hours about K-Pop and K-Dramas.

Jorge Espinoza
Senior Designer
The one who loves basketball, although we've never seen him touch a ball.
Besides his well-developed branding and packaging skills, Jorge has an additional super power that gives him the possibility to answer any question, and by answer we mean a well-structured nonsense babble that comes naturally out of his mouth. Never mind the topic, he will try to convince you of his truth, is up to you to believe it or not. You can follow him and his sausage shaped dogs at → @debut, @aplauso, @gluten... and god knows how many more Instagram accounts.

Daniela Rojas
Senior Designer
The one who created the Pupila Party Comitee, and the first one never came.
Dani joined Pupila’s ranks also in 2019 while still attending college, she later found out that Pupila was a better school and drop out. Selected from a pool of designers, her branding and illustration skills caught our attention but it was her love for The Office that cemented the decision. Her easy-going attitude and warm heart has made her our branding master for NGOs and startups, while also nurturing her skills on editorial design, illustration and a karaoke.

Mateos Muñoz
Photographer
The one who sets the tone in musica, and some people say... fashion?
After several years of not updating our portfolio, he was given the task to document all those long forgotten projects and make them look as good as new, he jumped into it head first. Mateos was our missing link. He possesses the looks of a metal band player, but nothing could be further from reality. A silent specialist, famous for his retouching and editing marathons that can last for days, capable of transforming spaces and creating surreal scenarios with the most basic materials.

Alejandro Royo
Motion & 3D Designer
The one for whom the quote "Beware the quiet man" was created.
While others speak, he watches. And while others act, he plans. And when they finally rest… he strikes.
A story of true perseverance and stubbornness, Ale joined 2020 after an initial failed attempt. We had a slight idea of how much motion graphics could impact our work, but Alejandro’s talent has also put all of us to shame for not having him on board sooner. While not animating or experimenting with 3D, Alejandro can be found walking through sugar cane fields at his beloved Turrialba.

Andrea López
Graphic Designer
The one obssesed with celebs and has a kink with Sponge Bob.
She was born under a Nicaraguan dictatorship, which might explain why she doesn’t like to take directions and enjoys picking fights for no reason whatsoever. After leaving her home country, she was selected from a long list of candidates to join Pupila's lines. Her perfect day? Shopping for very expensive home appliances with Timothée Chalamet, drinking matcha lattes in the park, and feeding pigeons.
For very cool animated GIFs and illustrations, follow her on IG and Dribbble.

Ian Jiménez
Graphic Designer
The one with the baby face and knows how to setup the printer.
Ian arrives at the office an hour before everyone else—not because he’s punctual, but because one day a stranger broke into his room and stood by his bed watching him sleep, and that was the end of sleeping in. He started at Pupila as an intern, got fired after six months, and was later rehired as our junior designer and unofficial IT guy, handling all the printing and tech issues we’d rather avoid. In his free time, you’ll find him playing FPS games and other nerdy stuff.

Antonio Barzuna
Graphic Designer
The class clown who likes to juggle with tennis balls.
Tony is the latest addition to the Pupila team. While we were searching for a web manager, he slipped his (unsolicited) design portfolio into the mix, hoping to catch our attention—and apparently, it worked. A bold move that proved he was a true fan of our work.
Once a rising star in national tennis, he traded his racket for editorial design, following his real passion. His greatest achievement? Being in Argentina during the 2022 World Cup and celebrating in the streets like a true albiceleste fan.
